Iron Skillet Apple Pie is a recipe that I got from my former mother-in-law. Of course, I think hers was always the best but I learned to make it pretty good too! Just like the title, I do bake it in an 8 inch iron skillet. Hence, the name, Iron Skillet Apple Pie. Note: this pic is not the actual pie! It’s a stock photo! As soon as I make the again, I will switch out the picture. Also make sure you have vanilla ice cream on hand!
Ingredients
2 pie crusts, thawed ( I use Pillsbury already made)
7 cups Granny Smith Apples, peeled and sliced
1 1/4 c sugar
1/4 c flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
3 tbsp butter, softened
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease or Spray generously an 8 inch Iron Skillet.
Spread bottom crust into skillet and up the sides.
Pour cut up, peeled apples into the pie crust.
Mix together all dry ingredients.
Put butter into the dry ingredients and cream together with a fork. Note: mixer is NOT needed.
Spread creamed mixture on top of apples. Note: It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just spread evenly.
Place second pie crust on top. Fold over or under edges to seal crusts together…whichever your best at! Again doesn’t have to be perfect.
Cut 2 inch slit in top crust.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Let cool before serving.
I will say, I love this Iron Skillet Apple Pie warm and with ice cream! Do you have a favorite Apple Pie recipe? I’ve also got a great Blueberry Pie for you Here. Let me know what you think of this one!
